The art of balancing tranquility and conviviality

When you spend much of your time on the road or catching flights, coming home should be effortless. This professional wanted to transform her property in Hochelaga-Maisonneuve into a personal space that matched her lifestyle.

The goal of this custom renovation was to create a home that served a dual purpose: a place to fully unwind after a trip, yet one with the seamless flow needed to host family and friends at a moment’s notice.

By rethinking the interior layout, every square meter was optimized to strike a balance between privacy and sociability. The result is an inviting sanctuary where one can instantly disconnect, without sacrificing the joy of hosting and gathering loved ones in a warm, welcoming atmosphere.

Details on the project project

The issue

This custom renovation project aimed to completely redesign the duplex to meet sometimes conflicting needs. The goal was to create open and welcoming living spaces while preserving intimate and functional areas such as our client’s bedroom.

The initial location of the staircase, which was not optimized, presented a major constraint. Completely redesigning the flow between the ground floor and the basement was an exciting challenge that allowed us to come up with an innovative plan, perfectly suited to the client’s aspirations. In addition, the existing style did not reflect her personality, requiring a complete aesthetic reconfiguration.

The need

The challenge for this renovation was immense, but the stakes were high: preserving the soul of this family home while transforming it into a modern and functional space, perfectly suited to our client’s current and future needs.

  • Open up the ground floor living space to modernize it by replacing the existing kitchen with a new functional, warm, bright, and practical kitchen.
  • Increase brightness throughout the house
  • Converting the basement into a multifunctional space
  • Add a bathroom to the house

The concept

Our concept was based on a few key principles:

  • Increase living space by renovating the basement
  • Configure the basement space to create a bright garden-level space.
  • Open up the kitchen to increase the brightness of the ground floor.
  • Designing a personal gym by maximizing light in a small basement space

The pendant lights, placed on either side of the bed, are both practical and decorative. Each has its own switch, offering unparalleled lighting flexibility, just like in a hotel room.

Forget right angles! The rounded island counter adds a touch of softness and elegance to the kitchen.
