A family haven steeped in history to be redesigned
The reinvented home
This renovation project transformed a family home steeped in history into a modern and functional space, while preserving its soul and precious memories.
Major changes included opening up the living space on the ground floor to create a new, bright, and welcoming kitchen. In the basement, a multifunctional space was created with a garage door, providing a harmonious connection between the interior and exterior, and a full bathroom was added.
Project details
More than just a building, this house represented a precious legacy, a symbol of the unbreakable bonds that united the family. Passed down from generation to generation, it was steeped in happy memories, laughter, and shared love. Selling and leaving this place steeped in history was unthinkable. However, the compartmentalized and aging layout of the spaces no longer met the family’s current needs.
The need
The challenge for this renovation was immense, but the stakes were high: the aim was to preserve the soul of this family home while transforming it into a modern, functional space, perfectly suited to our clients’ current and future needs.

The concept
Our concept was based on a few key principles:
- Increase living space by renovating the basement
- Configure the basement space to create a bright garden-level space.
- Open up the kitchen to increase the brightness of the ground floor.
- Designing a personal gym by maximizing light in a small basement space

This new, optimized kitchen is no longer just a place to prepare meals, but a true living space where guests can gather, share precious moments, and create unforgettable memories. A spacious central island invites lively conversation and shared meals, while generous countertops provide optimal workspace for cooking and baking. More than just a room, this open kitchen is the heart of the home. A space where the family gathers, where laughter mingles with the enticing aromas of simmering dishes, and where unforgettable memories are created every day.
Notes on the opening
Opening up a load-bearing wall was a strategic choice to create a shared, welcoming living space. By enlarging the kitchen, we not only optimized traffic flow, but more importantly, we met our clients’ need to entertain family and friends.
The large central island becomes the heart of the home, a gathering place where conversations and meals naturally linger. Combined with the open dining room, this layout offers all the space needed to accommodate large gatherings, paying homage to our clients’ family traditions. It is a space that combines functionality and conviviality and celebrates shared moments.
