Project
Transforming the ground floor into a warm and functional haven for the family in Town of Mount-Royal
Renovating the space to make room for the family
We redesigned the layout of the ground floor of this house in Town of Mount-Royal by removing a load-bearing wall that divided the ground floor. Thanks to this bold open-plan design, we were able to rethink the space and completely reinvent it to suit the family’s new priorities.
Details of the project
The issue
Established in Town of Mont-Royal for many years, the house has evolved with the family. With the children now young adults and the house still hosting numerous gatherings, the space no longer met their needs. Eager to remain in the neighborhood they love so much, a complete renovation of the ground floor was undertaken to create a more fluid and spacious environment, better suited to their current lifestyle.
The need
Our mission began with a clear vision: to create a bright and spacious area where everyone would feel comfortable, without ever getting in each other’s way. Our clients dreamed of a large, all-white kitchen, a true heart of the home where the family could prepare meals and eat together. From the outset, we already had several concrete ideas for overcoming structural challenges and obtaining the necessary approvals from the city regarding the windows.
The concept
- Change the location of the kitchen to open up the space and give an impression of grandeur.
- Add a window wall, depending on the orientation of the residence, to let in natural light.
- Replace the main staircase with a floating steel staircase with recessed stringers and glass railings.
Notes on the kitchen
With its dazzling white finish, the kitchen is not only functional, it also serves as a refined backdrop where noble materials such as wood, marble, steel, and glass come together to enrich the overall design. The dream has become a reality: a huge island where the whole family can finally get together to cook and share precious moments.

The result

We love
The table is specially made
The table is large enough to accommodate children and guests.
The porcelain wall
The porcelain wall, a marble reproduction that could be mistaken for the real thing, creates a sense of continuity with the kitchen.
The 19-foot island
The 19-foot made-to-measure island, into which walnut elements have been inserted to avoid visible joints. Perfect for cooking without ever running out of space.
