Residential Renovation

Specific Needs

Take advantage of spring to maintain your home!

We’ve invested in our home, so we’re going to make sure it retains its value. Regular maintenance helps prevent costly problems and maximize the value of your home’s components. Here are some tips to help you preserve your home as much as possible.

Expertise, inspection

Inspect the roof

No matter how harsh the winter, you should always perform some maintenance on your home at the end of the season. Check for water infiltration or new cracks in the ceilings or walls. Go up into the attic or call a specialist to check the following points:

Sloped Roofs and Flat Roofs

Check for fractures or deformations in the roof trusses or rafters. Also check for loose roof truss chords. Ensure that snow has not blocked ventilation, which could cause condensation, frost, or even mold and deterioration of the insulation. For flat roofs, ensure that accessories such as chimneys and antennas are secure, and also check the condition of the membrane.

Roofing and Gutters

For roofing, examine the asphalt shingles or metal siding. Check the flashings and ensure that nothing has been damaged by wind and ice. The anchors supporting the house’s gutters may have been weakened or torn off by snow and ice. They will need to be replaced if necessary.

The exterior cladding of your house

After inspecting and fixing any roof issues, we’ll continue our house maintenance by checking the exterior cladding.

Exterior Walls and Foundation

We’ll examine the door and window seals, the brick or stone joints, and the exterior cladding (wood, aluminum, PVC, etc.). We’ll make sure everything is securely fastened. We’ll then reinstall the screens and lubricate the doors and windows. Regarding the foundation, we’ll monitor the appearance or worsening of concrete cracks and the cracking of the plaster. We’ll restore natural ventilation to the basement windows and fill the floor drains with water to prevent unpleasant odors from rising into the house.

Chimney

We’ll have the chimney inspected by a professional. It’s best to do this in the spring, as chimney sweeps are less busy than in the fall, making it easier to get an appointment.

Garage, Driveway, Parking, and Sidewalks

Spring is the time to repair holes and cracks in asphalt surfaces and reinforce curbs. It’s also a good time to replace cracked pavers and fill empty joints. Don’t forget to clean out catch basins.

Balconies, Decks, and Fences

Test the strength of floors, stairs, and railings to prevent accidents. Ensure anchors are stable and level everything. If necessary, adjust and lubricate gate hinges and latches.

This regular spring maintenance will help keep your home in good condition for many years to come.

Outdoor equipment

For your comfort and safety, we recommend checking the operation and protection of electrical outlets and light fixtures. We reinstall water outlets and watering accessories. It’s also recommended to tune up your lawnmower and other gardening tools. We also clean the exterior vents of air outlets.

For playgrounds

For children’s safety, we inspect swings, slides, and sandboxes. We ensure they are functional and safe.

Air conditioner, air exchanger, dehumidifier and heat recovery ventilator (HRV)

The filters in these devices need to be cleaned and replaced for better efficiency. If necessary, you can reinstall the devices.
