The choice between an island and a peninsula in a kitchen
Closed or Open Kitchen?
The choice between a closed and an open kitchen has its advantages and disadvantages.
If you opt for a closed kitchen, you prevent cooking odors from spreading. The noise of appliances, such as the dishwasher or coffee machine, is isolated. In addition, a closed kitchen allows you to hide dirty dishes and waste from your guests’ view, while providing more storage space.
The Kitchen Island
An island is a freestanding structure in the center of the kitchen, which serves as a workspace or cooking area. Seating can also be incorporated by adding high chairs, as seen in the photo.
The Kitchen Peninsula
In smaller spaces, a peninsula is an effective alternative to an island. It is a counter that extends from a wall or column. The peninsula offers the same advantages as an islet, but with access limited to three sides instead of four.
The visual result for the peninsula is just as beautiful. The owners benefit from plenty of storage space on their peninsula and enjoy a very large, user-friendly work surface with seating that acts as a countertop.
