Italian shower with linear drain and heated floor

Our customers are increasingly asking us to have an Italian shower. The sleek design of this shower is definitely in high demand. The continuity of the shower with the rest of the bathroom is very appealing. Let’s first define the Italian shower.

An Italian shower in a bathroom

The slope towards the drain begins at the entrance to the shower, without the need for a threshold (small wall) to contain the water. The slope that sinks into the floor can be achieved by raising the entire bathroom floor around the shower, or by sinking into the floor structure. Note that this second scenario is impossible if your floor is made of concrete.

A linear drain in the shower

The second element that attracts the attention of our customers is the use of a linear drain in the design of projects. This linear drain installed in the center or on one side of the shower will make it possible to use large ceramic tiles on the floor (as opposed to small mosaics), because there is only a one-way slope of flow towards the drain.

The fact of using large tiles that are the same as those of the floor of the rest of the bathroom and not having a retaining threshold, gives the bathrooms that we design a harmonious design.

Schluter KERDI-LINE linear drains are recommended. These are available in various lengths and finishes. The linear drain used in the shower in the photo allows for tile to be inserted to almost completely hide in the floor. There are also models with stainless steel grill or cover.

It is also possible to extend the Schluter DITRA HEAT heated floor into the shower.

Underfloor heating isn’t just limited to the center of the bathroom, it can continue right into your walk-in shower… Bliss!
