Enlarging a room in a house: the game of illusion

We all want a home that looks great. Maximizing space quickly becomes a challenge when rooms are small. Fortunately, our interior designers have a few tips for making a room feel larger. Here are 5 classic ways to make a room feel more spacious.

1- White, our ally for enlarging space

It's well known that white is a classic for giving a room a sense of spaciousness. The paler the color, the more light it lets in, making the space feel larger. If pure white seems too cold, don't panic. You can play with shades of white, which are more or less warm, to maintain a warm atmosphere. The important thing is to avoid using a dark color, which would diminish this openness effect.

2- Play with mirrors for a depth effect

Mirror reflections are perfect for adding perspective to a room. The important thing isn't to place them haphazardly, but to consider where they will create the most depth. Make sure the mirror reflects an image that gives the illusion of grandeur to the room, such as a distant wall or an opening to another room.

3- The art of refinement for a larger room

A clean decor immediately creates a sense of space. Small items left loose can clutter a room and make it appear smaller. We recommend cleaning and maximizing your storage space to declutter surfaces. This will not only create the illusion of space, but it will also give you peace of mind every day.

4- Play on the transparency of materials

Transparency can also be used to avoid partitioning the space and allow light to circulate. For example, in a bathroom, you can opt for glass panels for the shower, or choose a glass table in the kitchen. You can also maximize the effect with large windows in the living room. All of these elements contribute to increasing the sense of spaciousness.

5- Multiply the sources of light

To make a room appear larger, focus on light sources. We like to install several recessed lights in the ceiling to illuminate the entire room. By having several electrical circuits, we can create different atmospheres and draw the eye toward the back of the room, which gives an impression of depth and spaciousness. La photo ci-dessous est un bel exemple d'une salle de bain de sous-sol qu'on a voulu rendre aussi grande et lumineuse que possible. On a appliqué plusieurs de nos principes pour s'assurer que le petit espace ne soit pas surchargé.
